Make sure that each source tape is given a unique and easily identifiable name on both the tape case and the tape itself. Use this same unique name when entering the tape or reel name in your NLE.
Numbered tapes should all have the same number of numeric characters in the name. For example, if you have filmed 54 tapes, call tapes one to nine 01, 02, 03 etc. If you have filmed more than 100, call them 001, 002, 021, 034 etc. Most NLEs will sort numbers from left to right, so Tape 11 will come ahead of Tape 2 but not ahead of Tape 02. If the time-code on your tape resets, enter a new tape name for the section after the time-code reset. For example, call the first part of the tape Tape 023 and the second part Tape 023A. Mark the tape accordingly.
